Plastic Surgerymarksison-profile

Plastic Surgery deals with any concern you may have about your face or body. It encompasses both Cosmetic or Aesthetic Surgery and Reconstructive Surgery. "Cosmetic" or "Aesthetic" Surgery are interchangeable terms which belongs to the medical specialty of Plastic Surgery used to describe elective procedures that helps improve or enhance ones' appearance.

Mainly done on normal or non-diseased structures, cosmetic surgery not only offers the modification of body parts you may not find appealing, it eventually also helps boost or renew self-confidence, which may ultimately provide that needed advantage in your personal and/or professional lives.

Common Cosmetic Surgery procedures include Breast Augmentation (Augmentation Mamaplasty/"Boob-job"), Eyelid Surgery (Upper and/or Lower Blepharoplasty / Eye Bag Removal/"Deep-Setting"), Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty), Liposuction/ Liposculpture (Suction Assisted Lipectomy), Nose Lift (Augmentation Rhinoplasty), Nose Trimming (Alarplasty), Breast Lift (Mastopexy), Face Lift/ Facial Rejuvination (Rhytidectomy), Butt Augmentation/enhancement, Otoplasty (Ear Surgery for Lop-ear/Prominent ears, Repair of Enlarged Ear Ring Holes), Dimple Creation, Botox and Dermal Fillers Injection.

Plastic Surgery is NOT a 'quick-fix', 'skin-deep' procedure that makes people look younger or model-perfect. It is about empowering individuals to overcome inhibitions brought about by perceived physical imperfections. Included in a Plastic Surgeon’s scope of expertise is Reconstructive Surgery which attempts to restore areas of the face or body -- which may have been deformed from birth, a result of a disease, or physical trauma -- to a more normal appearance; this helps people regain their lives and feel more comfortable about themselves. Reconstructive Surgery includes: Cleft Lip and/or Palate Repair (Cheiloplasty/ Palatoplasty ), Burn Surgery and Management, Breast Reconstruction (mostly after cancer surgery of the breast), Skin Cancer/tumor/lesions, Skin Grafts & Flaps for wound coverage, Fractures of the Facial Bones, Hand Surgery.

Plastic Surgery in the Philippines, especially cosmetic surgery has been constantly evolving . With its growing popularity, more and more doctors are trying to meet the demand. Since there is no law that would impede any doctor to offer/perform plastic surgery or cosmetic surgery services regardless of their board certification, training, and skill level, selecting the right doctor to perform the procedure may be very confusing. That’s why it is very important to know and understand which qualifications are legitimate for the procedure you are considering.

In the Philippines, both the training and certification of qualified Plastic Surgeons are overseen by the Philippine Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (PAPRAS), which is the only Medical Specialty Society accredited by the Philippine College of Surgeons (PCS) and the Philippine Medical Association (PMA) in the field of Plastic Surgery. To be a Plastic Surgeon, a licensed doctor (after having passed the medical board exam), must undergo formal Residency Training in General Surgery (4 or 5 years) then sub-specialize in Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (another 3 years) in Philippine Board of Surgery and Philippine Board of Plastic Surgery accredited institutions (respectively). Accredited PAPRAS Training Institutions include: UST, UP-PGH, Consortium I (Makati Medical Center, Rizal Medical Center, UERM-East Avenue Medical Center), and Consortium II (St.Luke’s Medical Center, Jose Reyes Medical Center, Lourdes Hospital, FEU Hospital). Finally, the doctor is must qualify through examinations to be Board Certified (Diplomate).

In a statement released in 2009, the PAPRAS cautioned, “Unfortunately, a number of medical practitioners have tried to take a shorter route to attain economic gain from cosmetic surgery. After attending inadequate ‘training courses’ as short as 3 days to 1 week, they have built clinics and used the media to profess themselves as cosmetic surgeons. Expertise cannot be assured in these cases.”

By selecting a board-certified Plastic Surgeon, you are confident that the doctor had the perseverance to complete an extensive legitimate training and had passed rigorous examinations in his specialty; the dedication to adhere only to the highest standards of surgical care and the integrity to follow a strict code of ethics. This however, does not guarantee that you will get the exact results you want. Since any type of surgery entails some risks of complication even in the best of hands, choosing the right doctor with the proper background, whom you are comfortable with, minimizes these risks and increases the chance for a successful surgical experience.

“There are no short cuts to any place worth going.” --- Beverly Sills

Plastic Surgery is about personal growth. Some people may be complacent about themselves, accepting things as they are, never risking to go out of their comfort zones to improve; desisting change at all costs. But we have to embrace change if we want to improve.

About Me

I have been fascinated about self improvement as early as I could remember. Being the youngest of five siblings, I was brought up in a very competitive environment. I had to develop the discipline and the passion to constantly improve myself. Always eager to learn; trying to do the best I can in everything I do to cope with the many challenges life has to offer; always asking myself: how can I do better? How can I do more?

As a board certified Plastic Surgeon, I offer my experience, expertise, dedication and passion to help people in their own quest for personal improvement to achieve their best potential in life.

OutreachIMG_0009

I always strive to maximize my ability to reach out to people who wants to initiate positive change in their lives. There has always been a never-ending pursuit to find opportunities to share my time and skills in assisting those people through various outreach programs and surgical missions. By correcting physical imperfections a patient may have been born with or may have unfortunately acquired, we help them inhibit the emotional and psychological barriers that have developed as a consequence, and bring them closer in attaining their full potential in life. A face endeared with a smile, where there was once a painful grimace, zest for life where there used to be inconsolable helplessness, being able to help them turn distressing situations into a ray of optimism and self-satisfaction.

Medical Tourism

Medical tourism has been evident as a developing sector among various national industries all over the world. Many people in other countries manage to travel overseas to look for quality health care at a reasonably lower cost. The convenience of international travel, search for more advanced technological breakthroughs and mounting costs in medical services in other countries have laid the ground for the medical tourism. Inclination towards medical tourism has been prominent in countries like Argentina, Thailand, Cuba, Colombia, Singapore, Costa Rica, Hong Kong, India, Brunei, Panama, and Malaysia.

Philippines is becoming a notable player in the medical tourism industry and with the given conditions of costly medical procedures abroad, the trend continues to elevate. Among common medical procedures are plastic and cosmetic surgery, dental services and dermatology. With our roster of qualified surgeon and physicians, up-to-date technology and exclusive treatment that local and international patients get makes us truly competitive and world-class.

Medical procedures in the Philippines like plastic and cosmetic surgery can be availed at a much lower cost compared to the same services rendered in United States and other European countries. For instance, a rhinoplasty procedure would range from £3000-£4000 in UK while you can get a nose job for only around USD $500-1200 in the Philippines. Go for plastic surgery procedures that can really offer promising results at a fraction of the cost.

In addition, finding a qualified surgeon doesn't end with looking at the training background of the plastic surgeon but the continued efforts of updating his/her expertise in the field through seminars to get hold of what is latest in plastic and cosmetic surgery procedures. The plastic surgeon's experience coupled with training ensures patients of getting quality plastic and cosmetic surgery procedures within their budget.
